UNCW Honors Myrna Wexler

On January 14, 2016, our friend and League colleague Myrna Wexler was honored and remembered at a reception at the Cultural Arts Center of UNCW for her many contributions to the Art and Art History Departments of UNCW over the years. Several members of the League of Women Voters of the Lower Cape Fear were there for the event. Many community leaders, art enthusiasts and faculty were also present. Faculty from the Arts Department gave tributes and spoke of the contributions of both Myrna and her husband Owen to the University's Art Department and UNCW. Myrna and Owen's volunteer gifts to Wilmington were numerous, varied and well known and that included all the hours she donated to the League of Women Voters. We remember Myrna fondly.

Citizenship Ceremony at Moores Creek

On September 19, 2015, the League of Women Voters of the Lower Cape Fear attended a naturalization ceremony at Moores Creek Battlefield and registered many of the new citizens to vote. Thirty-one countries were represented and 59 new citizens were sworn in. The League handed each new citizen a voter registration form; many completed the form and brought it to our booth for delivery to the Board of Elections. Others took them home to be mailed.
